06/18/2009: QBE Regional awards 32 with $1,000 scholarships
QBE Regional Insurance is helping make college more affordable for 32 outstanding students by awarding them renewable $1,000 scholarships.
The Wisconsin-based insurer awarded 12 scholarships to dependents of employees, 12 to dependents of staff employed at the company’s Premier Partner agencies, and eight to students in states where the company has offices. Awards are renewable up to three years or until a degree is earned and are based on satisfactory academic performances.
The scholarship program began in 2003. Since its inception, the company has awarded $400,000 to 141 students and is giving away another $32,000 this year. Recipients were judged and selected by the independent administrator Scholarship Management Services, based on:
• Past academic performance and future potential
• Leadership and participation in school and community activities
• Work experience
• Career and educational aspirations and goals
• Unusual personal or family circumstances
• An appraisal from a non-family member
